YouTube Videos

When inserting YouTube videos anywhere throughout the website you need to use the required url format as below example.


This part 'XCOzFevMm2c' will be the unique 11 Digit ID number of the video. Therefore all urls are

https://www.youtube.com/embed/ followed by the 11 Digit unique YouTube ID 

Editi Vehicle Details

  1. Login
  2. From the WordPress dashboard click 'Hillside VT For Sale' in left menu
  3. Then click 'Hillside VT For Sale' again
  4. Select Vehicle

YouTube Video in Slider Gallery

You can add a YouTube video in the gallery thumbnail images. Note the video is not displayed as embedded, it is a link to open a pop up of the video to play. 

  1. Under the heading 'Videos'
  2. Type the YouTube video url into the 'Video Url' box
  3. Under 'Image Upload' click 'Add Media'
  4. You can select a thumbnail image for this video from the Media library. If you want to have a generic image select Hillside_Logo_.jpg

Edit Vehicle Description

  1. Login
  2. Click 'Hillside VT For Sale' in left menu
  3. Then click 'Hillside VT For Sale' again
  4. Select Vehicle
  5. Click 'Edit with Elementor'
Elementor is a powerful drag and drop page builder. It provides Block Elements that can be dragged into your page then configured as required. On the left hand side scroll down to the heading CARLEADER

As an example lets add Add a YouTube video

  1. Click and hold on 'Car Leader Video' block
  2. Drag the block into your description section looking for the the blue line that will show you where the block can be dropped.
  3. When you find a preferred location let go of the block.
  4. Place the YouTube url in the 'YouTube Video URL' box

Edit Pages/Services/Reviews

  1. Login
  2. From the WordPress dashboard click the Page, Service or Review you wish to edit in left menu
  3. Click 'Edit with Elementor'

In this part we will submit our website to Google, Bing and others to ensure these major Search Engines can easily find our website. 

2.0 Embed Google Analytics Tracking code into your website

It is essential you tell Google about your website, to do this you embed a special code that Google uses to track your website and report back on its performance and visitor statistics. Before you insert a code however it is worth checking if a tracking code has already been inserted. You can do this by checking your domain name with the website below. 


If a code is already embedded you will get a row of green ticks under the heading 'Universal Analytics'. Please get in touch if this is the case. If it is not then you can carry on.

The get Google Analytics working you will need a Google Account then visit Google Analytics then get a Google Analytics Tracking ID for your website domain name. 

To do this first open Chrome Browser, login to your Google account then visit the link below 


Google Analytics lets you set up an Account (up to 100 accounts) and in that account you can have properties(domain names). For Example you can have an Account called Liverpool Building Services and within that account you can have different properties such as liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk and if you have another website at liverpoolbuilders.co.uk you can add that too (up to 50 properties)

  • Click Admin icon bottom left
  • Press the ’+ Create Account’ Button (Note: an Account has properties ie 'Liverpool Building Services' account could have 2 properties liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk and liverpooljoineryservices.co.uk)
  • Account Name - eg 'Liverpool Building Services'
  • Agree to all the boxes and press 'Next'
  • Select 'Web' press 'Next'
  • Property Website Name - eg liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk or www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk (depending on your preferred domain www or non-www) 
  • Property Website URL - eg liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk or www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk (depending on your preferred domain www or non-www)
  • Website URL - If your website is using SSL ie 'https://' rather than 'http://' then select 'https://'
  • Property Industry Category - Select One. If you are unsure select 'Business and Industrial Markets' 
  • Property Reporting Time Zone - eg United Kingdom
  • Press 'Create'
  • Select your country ie United Kingdom, tick the T&Cs boxes then press the 'Accept' button
  • Record the Tracking ID (maybe copy and paste it somewhere?) The rest of the script is not required in this case

Now we going to embed this tracking code into your website so Google can find your website and record user data 

2.0.1 Joomla CMS

  • Login to Joomla backend admin
  • Go to Extensions/Plugin
  • Search for the Plugin called 'System - Google Analytics' If it is not present contact us and we will install it
  • Open it and ensure the Status is set to 'Enabled'
  • Click the 'Options' tab and insert your Tracking ID into the field labelled 'Google Analytics Web Property ID.' 
  • Press 'Save & Close'

2.0.2 Wordpress CMS

  • Login to Wordpress admin
  • Click 'Insights'

Manual entry

  • Click the link 'Click here to authenticate manually.'
  • Under the heading 'Manually enter your UA code' Insert your tracking code
  • Press 'Save changes' button

Authenticate using Google Account

  • Click 'Authenticate' button
  • Select Google account for associates GA Property
  • Select relevant property
  • Click 'Save'

You can now use the website again below to check your Tracking ID is correctly installed. You should get a row of green ticks under the heading 'Universal Analytics' 


NOTE: If checking GA Tracking code is present using Google Tag Assistant below you may get an error message using the Insight Plugin. This is because if you are a WordPress Administrator the 'Tracking' setting Administrator role is set to be ignored by Google to prevent unwanted WP Admin usage in reports. 

2.0.1 Using Google Chrome extension Tag Assistant to check the correct tracking code has been embedded(Optional)

Note that GA Checker above verifies that Google Analytics in installed which is perfectly satisfactory. However, if you wish to be 100% sure Google is picking up the correct Tracking code you have just embeded you can use a Google Chrome extension called 'Tag Assistant'. This check is only really needed if you need to verify Google is picking up exactly the same code as the one you have been given for the website property created in Google Analytics.


2.1 Link your Google Analytics property to the Joomla CMS SEO Extension JSiteMap Pro (Joomla only)

JSiteMap Pro is a Joomla extension that gives you in depth analytics in the back end of Joomla without having to view the Google Analytics account and also provides additional functionality to further assist with SEO. Some of its functionality will be used later in these guidelines. 

Firstly ensure you are logged in with the same Google account in Chrome Browser that you used to set up Google Analytics

  • Login Joomla backend admin
  • Components/JSiteMap Pro
  • Google Analytics Icon
  • STEP 1 Press ‘Get Google access code’
  • Select the same Google Account associated with the Google Analytics Property you set up previously
  • Press Allow
  • Copy the code Code
  • Return to Joomla admin
  • STEP 2  Paste code into box
  • STEP 3 Press ‘Authenticate and Login’ button

The correct domain name should automatically be picked up and shown in blue. Check it is the same domain name as your website. If it is not go back to the Control Panel/Google Analytics Press the 'Logout from Google' button and repeat STEPS 1 to 3 above.

2.2 Create a Google Search Console (Formally known as Google Webmaster Tools) Property

Before starting Google Search Console it is worth finding out about the differences between Google Analytics and Google Search Console

There are two types of property available 

'Domain' and 'URL prefix' 

We use 'Domain' which negates the need to submit the various prefix properties to Google.

Adding Google Search Console properties

Open Chrome Browser, login to the same Google account you used to get the Tracking ID from in Google Analytics then visit the link below to enter Google Search Console 


'Domain' Property Type (Preferred)

  • Navigate to the top left drop down of properties select 
  • Click ‘+ Add property’ button
  • Select 'Domain' property type
  • Type in your domain eg liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk remember to not put any prefix before the domain such as www or http etc just the domain name
  • Press 'CONTINUE'
  • Verify domain ownership via DNS record - You will be given a TXT record to make a note of. Copy this and send it to us and we shall add the TXT record required on the server. 
  • If you can do this yourself, look for the Advanced DNS Zone editor in your hosting cPanel and create a new TXT Records name it using your domain name eg liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk. and a TTL of 1 and paste the Google Console TXT record into the TXT Data box. Once the TXT Record is added you can try Verifying the property. If it does not verify the first time trying again in a minute or two. It can take up to 15 mins. 

'URL Prefix' Property Type

To ensure your website is successfully connected to Google Search Console, Google will require you to prove you are the owner of both the www and non-www versions of your website eg 

http://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk and http://www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk

This means you will need to add a Search Console Property for each of the above domain names.

If you have a secure site you will ALSO need to add both variations below eg 

https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk and https://www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk

This means you will need to add a further Search Console Property for each of the above domain names.

Therefore if you have a secure (https) site you will need to add a total of 4 Search Console Properties for example

  1. http://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  2. http://www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  3. https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  4. https://www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk

If you started with a http site then changed it to a https site so it now points to the https versions then Google treats this as a website URL change so the non ssl http www and non-www http properties will stop collecting data until the new https www and non-www properties are added. 

Also note that if a change is made from http to https any associated Google Analytics property that is linked to a Search Console property will need changing from http property to the https property. To do this delete the existing GA link to the http SC property and recreate a new link to the https SC property. (see the next section for how Google Analytics Properties and Google Search Console Properties are linked up)

Follow Steps A to E

A - Add http non-www Property

  • Click ‘ADD A PROPERTY’ button
  • Select 'URL prefix' property type
  • Paste in website non-www full url eg http://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  • Press ‘Add’
  • Under the ‘Recommended Method’ Tab You should see (Recommended ‘Google Analytics’) If the recommended method for verification comes up as other such as HTML file Upload or Domain Name Provider click the 'Alternative methods' tab and select 'Google Analytics'
  • Press ‘VERIFY’ (Search Console will find the Google Analytics Tracking ID you uploaded above and use it to verify ownership)
  • A "Congratulation..." message will pop up
  • Press  ‘Continue’

B - Add http www Property

  • Click 'Search Console' (top left in red)
  • Click ‘ADD A PROPERTY’ button
  • Select 'URL prefix' property type
  • Paste in website www url eg http://www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk/
  • Press ‘Add’
  • Under the ‘Recommended Method’ Tab (Recommended ‘Google Analytics’)
  • Press ‘Verify’
  • A "Congratulations" message will pop up
  • Press  ‘Continue’

C - Add https non-www Property

  • Click 'Search Console' (top left in red)
  • Click ‘ADD A PROPERTY’ button
  • Select 'URL prefix' property type
  • Paste in website non-www full url eg https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  • Press ‘Add’
  • Under the ‘Recommended Method’ Tab (Recommended ‘Google Analytics’)
  • Press ‘VERIFY’
  • A "Congratulations" message will pop up
  • Press  ‘Continue’

D - Add https www Property

  • Click 'Search Console' (top left in red)
  • Click ‘ADD A PROPERTY’ button
  • Select 'URL prefix' property type
  • Paste in website www url eg https://www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk/
  • Press ‘Add’
  • Under the ‘Recommended Method’ Tab (Recommended ‘Google Analytics’)
  • Press ‘Verify’
  • A "Congratulations" message will pop up
  • Press  ‘Continue’

E - Set Preferred Version (non-www or www)

  • Click 'Search Console' top left in Red
  • Click on the heading of the preferred version eg https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk or https://www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  • Press the settings cog icon (top right)
  • Select 'Site Settings'
  • Change the Preferred domain from 'Don't set a preferred domain' to your "Display URLs as...(Select your preferred choice)"
  • Press the 'Save' button
  • A message should come up "Your changes were successfully saved"

2.3 Submitting your Sitemaps to your preferred version (Applies to both Domain and URL prefix property types)

If you have used the URL Prefix method Sitemaps only need submitting to the preferred domain property ie the prefered domain you selected above.

Joomla CMS

Note that these sitemap links have been generated using the installed Joomla extension JSiteMap Pro. If you do not have JSiteMap Pro installed the sitemaps must be generated manually. Please contact us if this is the case or to have JSiteMap Pro installed in your Joomla Website.

  • Click 'Search Console' top left
  • Select from the dropdown the domain name you require 
  • Click the heading ‘Sitemaps’ 
  • Under ‘Add a new sitemap’
  • Paste https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk/index.php?option=com_jmap&view=sitemap&format=xml into the box
  • Press 'Submit' button
  • Under ‘Add a new sitemap’. This time
  • Paste https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk/index.php?option=com_jmap&view=sitemap&format=images into the box
  • Press 'Submit'
  • Under ‘Add a new sitemap’. This time
  • Paste https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk/index.php?option=com_jmap&view=sitemap&format=mobile into the box
  • Press 'Submit'
  • Your Joomla Sitemaps have now been submitted to Google Search Console

WordPress CMS

Note that the sitemap link has been generated using the installed WordPress Plugin Yoast. 

Ensure Yoast is set up correctly as follows

  • Under SEO/General/Features/ All Are set to Yes
  • Click the XML sitemaps ? symbol to click a link to your sitemap
  • Under SEO/Search Appearance/Content Types is set to 'Yes'
  • Under SEO/Search Appearance/Media is set to 'Yes'

If you do not have Yoast installed the sitemaps will need to be generated manually. Please contact us if this is the case or to have the Yoast Plugin installed in your WordPress website.

  • Click 'Search Console' top left
  • Select from the dropdown the domain name you require 
  • Click the heading ‘Sitemaps’ Under ‘Add a new sitemap’
  • Paste in the FULL URL to your site map eg https://liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk/sitemap_index.xml
  • Press 'Submit' button
  • Your Wordpress Sitemap has now been submitted to Google Search Console

2.4 Set International Targeting Country(Applies to both Domain and URL prefix property types)

Note if you are using the New Google Search Console this feature is not yet available

If you use a country domain extension such as .co.uk Google will automatically set your target Country as the UK, this applies to all country extensions. However, if you use the .com extension for example you will need to tell Google which country you are targeting your users in. 

If you do not set this then Google will presume you are looking at all users around the world. Leaving this setting unchecked or not set at all may result in low or no ranking for certain keywords.  

  • Click 'Search Console' top left in Red
  • Click 'Search Traffic'
  • Click 'International Targeting'
  • Click the 'Country' tab
  • If you have just set up your sitemaps you may get the message 'Google has not yet processed your property.' If this is the case please wait 24 hours and try again, otherwise continue below. 
  • If your Country is correct please leave as is otherwise...
  • Select the 'Country' tab
  • Select your chosen Country
  • Press Save

2.5 Link your Google Analytics account to your Google Search Console prefered domain Property

Note if you are using the New Google Search Console this feature is not yet available

This is done so that GA can use the prefered domain SC Property you set up in the previous step to more accurately produce SERPS(Search Engine Reports). Linking up your GA and SC properties allows GA to produce reports that not only show user page stats but also other website performance information such as keyword analysis all together in the same reports. Google Analytics SERPS can be analysed by a website owner to identify key statistics that can then be used to further improve a websites chances of appearing higher in the rankings

More information about the difference between Google Analytics and Google Search Console can be found here.

  • Login to the same Google Analytics account you used to get the Tracking ID for your website
  • Ensure the correct Google Analytics Account is selected using the 'All accounts' selector top left
  • Click the 'Admin' icon bottom left
  • The first column entitled Account should have the correct account listed in the drop down
  • In the second column entitled 'Property' Click 'Property Settings'
  • Scroll down to the bottom and press the button ‘Adjust Search Console’
  • Click the ‘Add’ link (a new Browser tab will open listing your SC properties)
  • Select the preferred domain(non-www or www, http or https) from the list
  • Scroll Down and press the ‘Save’ button
  • ‘Add association’ pop up will appear Press ‘OK’
  • The Search Console Browser tab will return to the SC home page. You may now have 2 browser tabs open to SC so this one can be closed.
  • Return to the Chrome Browser tab with Google Analytics in it
  • Press the ‘Done’ button
  • Scroll to the bottom and press ‘Save’
  • A small Yellow box should appear briefly saying ‘Success.’

To check you have successfully linked up your Google Analytics account to your prefered Search Console Property

  • In the GA left menu, click Acquisition/Search Console/Landing Pages’
  • You should now see the 'Landing Pages" statistics page. If you see the message “This report requires Search Console integration to be enabled” return to the instructions above and try again.
  • If you click on the other headings under Search Console eg Countries, Devices and Queries, you should also see statistics appearing for those headings 
Please note that if no actual stats are present (all charts flat) this maybe down to the process above being completed straight after embedding the Google Analytics Tracking ID to your website as no stats will have yet been generated. In other words no time has gone by yet for Google Analytics to produce any statistics. 

If both/either Google Analytics and/or Search Console have been live for some time then some statistics should show. A confirmation email will also be sent to the Search Console account holder confirming the link has been made. You have now linked your Google Analytics account Property to your Search Console account Property and you can now move on to producing SERPS(Search Engine Reports).

Now Google Analytics is 'talking' to Google Search Console we can begin to generate Google Analytics SEO Reports, commonly known as Search Engine Reports(SERPS). 

2.6 Create and set up email Search Engine RePortS(SERPS) from Google Analytics

SERPS can give you the information you need to make decisions on improving your website or your business by discovering for example what pages users have looked at the most, what pages users have looked at the least, from which country they have come from and which keywords/phrases they used to find you in the Google search engine. There are potentially hundreds of SERPS that can be created in Google Analytics.

These SERPS can be scheduled to be sent via email on a regular basis such as monthly so you receive the essential SERPS you require at a frequency that suits you. 

Note: If you are using the New Google Search Console the following reports cannot be created because the new Search Console will not yet connect a property to Google Analytics

  • Acquisition/Search Console/Landing Pages(Which pages your users ended up on after a search)
  • Acquisition/Search Console/Countries(Where users are based by country)
  • Acquisition/Search Console/Devices(Which devices such as desktop or mobile they were using to search for your type of business)
  • Acquisition/Search Console/Queries(Which keywords/phrases they used to find you in Google search)

All other SERPS can be scheduled in an email to yourself/others

The following SERPS are recommended

  • Audience/Overview (General overview of user numbers)
  • Audience/Mobile/Overview (Find out which type of device eg desktop or mobile is used the most)
  • Audience/Behavior/New vs Returning (Find out what proportion of your visitors are new or returning - New visitors are good)
  • Behaviour/Site Content/Landing Pages (Find out your main landing pages and if visitors are staying around by noting the Bounce Rate - Low Bounce rate means visitors are hanging around which is good)
  • Behaviour/Site Search/Search Terms (Find out what search terms are being used to find your website)
  • Acquisition/All Traffic/Channels (Find out which channels are producing traffic to your website - 'Direct' is yourself)

If Social Media is embedded into your website the following reports are also helpful

  • Acquisition/Social - Landing Pages (Discover which social media platforms are engaging with your website content)
  • Acquisition/Social - Plugins (Discover which Social Media platforms uses are using to share your website content)

To create Google Analytics SERPS (Search Engine RePortS)

  • Login to the same Google Analytics account you used to get the Tracking ID for your website
  • Click the 'Admin' icon bottom left
  • Ensure the correct Google Analytics account is selected from the ACCOUNT Drop Down
  • Ensure the correct Google Analytics account Property url/name is selected from the PROPERTY Drop Down
  • In the left menu click the report you require eg Audience/Mobile/Overview
  • Click either the 'Share' icon top right or 'Email' link top left (whichever is available)

To - The email address of the person receiving the report. It can go to multiple addresses. Make sure you separate each email using a comma.

eg bob@liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk,fred@liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk,albert@hotmail.co.uk

Subject - A description of the emails content

eg "liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk Google Analytics Reports"

Attachments - What format you want the report in? We recommend leaving as PDF

Frequency - How often you want to receive the report? We recommend Monthly on the 1st day

ADVANCED OPTIONS - Click this to select how long you want the report to be sent to you. The longest period is 12 months. After 12 months the report will stop but it can be perpetually renewed in 12 month periods by logging back into your GA account and renewing the report for a further 12 months. Please ask us if you wish us to do this for you.

Body text - The large white box is for some text to go in the email to describe in further detail what the attached report is. The text below is an example. This is the message we send to customers that explain what the attached reports are. You can change this to anything you like.

These reports are automatically generated by Google Analytics as a direct result of Wrap up Web enabling this reports email on your behalf.

Brief Glossary of Terms used

Session - A period of time a user is actively engaged with your website, app, etc.
Users - Users who have initiated at least one session during the date range of the report
Pageviews - Total number of pages viewed
Pages/Session - Average number of pages viewed during a session
Bounce Rate - A bounce is a single-page session on your site. In Analytics, a bounce is calculated specifically as a session that triggers only a single request to the Analytics server, such as when a user opens a single page on your site and then exits without triggering any other requests to the Analytics server during that session. A low Bounce rate is good because it means users have decided to continue looking at further pages on your website rather than close the page instantly(Bounce)

Rather than go through the process of setting up another scheduled email to send a SERP you can attach further reports to the scheduled email you have already set up above.

To do this, for the remaining 7 recommended reports

Follow these steps

  • Select the required SERP above
  • Click either the 'Share' icon top right or 'Email' link top left (whichever is available)
  • Leave all the fields blank
  • Click the link 'Add to an existing email'
  • Select the scheduled email by clicking the drop down for the required period then tick the report as required
  • Press the 'Save' button
  • You will get a green brief message 'Email successfully scheduled'
  • Repeat the above for all the other SERPS listed above

Edit/Renew/Delete existing Scheduled emails

To change the settings for existing SERP scheduled emails, delete them or renew them for another 12 months

  • Click Admin
  • Ensure the correct Google Analytics account is selected from the ACCOUNT Drop Down
  • Ensure the correct Google Analytics account Property url/name is selected from the PROPERTY Drop Down eg liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk or www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  • Under 'VIEW' Column Select ’All Website Data’ from the dropdown
  • Scroll to bottom and click Scheduled Emails
  • Click the scheduled email to edit it
  • To Extend(Renew) it select Extend from the 'Actions dropdown
  • To Delete it select Delete from the 'Actions drop down

Give other user access to the Google Analytics PROPERTY (Optional)

If you wish another person to have access to the Google Analytics account property. You can give them various levels of access such as allowing them to simply view the SERPS(Read & Analyse) or edit the Property(Edit) Edit Property not recommended if you wish to retain control over the property

  • Click Admin
  • Ensure the correct Google Analytics account is selected from the ACCOUNT Drop Down
  • Ensure the correct Google Analytics account Property url/name is selected from the PROPERTY Drop Down eg liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk or www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk
  • Under 'View' Column click 'View User Management'
  • Click the Add icon and select 'Add User'
  • Type in the users email 
  • Give the user access permissions as required such as 'Read & Analyze' or 'Edit'
  • Tick the 'Notify this user by email' option if you want them to receive this
  • Press 'Add'

2.7 Submit your website domain name and/or Sitemaps to the Search Engines

Above we have told Google all about our website and given it permission to analyse it so we can receive SERPS that tell us about our users, how they have found us in Google and the content they view. There are of course other Search Engines but the following cover most searches performed on the entire planet.

  • Google - Although we have already submitted our site to google using Google Analytics/Google Console we can also directly submit to further help SEO.
  • Bing/Yahoo - Microsoft owned Search Engine
  • Yandex(Russia's Google - not essential in the UK unless you wish to be found internationally)
  • Baidu(China's Google - not essential in the UK unless you wish to be found internationally)

A - Google - Joomla only - Submit Sitemaps using the Joomla extension JSiteMap

  • Login to Joomla admin
  • Components/JSiteMap Pro
  • Scroll down to the SEO dashboard
  • Click the 'Lightning' icon for Link for XML sitemap 
  • Submit to at least Google & Bing by clicking on each in turn and waiting for the prompt box to confirm submission. Submit to Yandex and Baidi if required
  • Repeat the above for Link to XML Images sitemap and Link to XML Mobile sitemap

B - Bing - Direct submission

To submit your website to Bing you will need a Microsoft account such as a hotmail or outlook account or you could create one just for this task.

  • At this point verification of ownership is required. Option 1 is recommended

  • Click 'My Sites' to see your website listed
  • No data may be present initially. Give it a few days before checking data on your site is being monitored

If you submit to Google & Bing above you are submitting your website to the main two search engines used by the western world. You can however submit your website to other search engines including international search engines if you run an international business.

In most cases this is self generated and works but never take that for granted. Each installation of a website can create different urls so ensure your sitemaps are discoverable at yourdomainname.com/sitemap.xml

If you end up at your xml sitemaps(listed text links to your pages) then great. 

If you get Page Not Found then this needs fixing.

Soft 404s are fairly common errors that Google sometimes throws up for web pages. They’re a strange error because soft 404s are a hybrid of 404 and normal pages, and what exactly is causing this error for a particular page might not always be clear.

For example you may have a page that is a display of other Pages or Articles but you do not need each individual page to be indexed by Google eg Testimonials.

These type of errors are displayed in Google Search Console so check GSC and find out of they are present.

To get rid of them you need to tell Google not to index them.

WP Plugin 'Imsanity' by Shane Bishop. Once installed and activated this Plugin can be used to reduce the size of images uploaded to the Media Library and resize images already uploaded to the Media Library. 

Follow the instructions below to configure the plugin to resize newly uploaded images AND resize images already uploaded to the WordPress Media Library. 

Resizing images already uploaded to the WordPress Media Library will be a one off task as the plugin will resize images after activation. However, if images are uploaded manually for example directly using FTP this process can be run again if required.

  1. Install and activate the Plugin
  2. Settings/Imsantity
  3. Set Max Width as required. For example 1920 Max Width 1920 Max Height (this will ensure no image is Wider than 1920 or Higher than 1920)
  4. Tick Deep Scan
  5. Save Changes
  6. Click 'Search Images'
  7. Many images that are already in your Media Library may be listed as over your required size upon first scan. To ensure firstly that Imsanity is working correctly just select just one image to resize then press the "Resize Selected Images" button. 
  8. After completion press the 'Search Images' button again and check the single image you selected above is no longer listed as oversized. 
  9. If it is no longer listed then tick all the images listed as oversized andc press the 'Resize Selected Images' button. Note that if a lot of images require reduction the process could take some time.
  10. Upon completion you will see a prompt 'Resizing Complete'
  11. Any images now uploaded to the Media Library will be resized as configured.

5.3.3 - Minify JavaScript and CSS files

Minifying your CSS and JavaScript files means that all the unnecessary data from them like double spaces, empty new lines, comments, etc. will be removed from the files lowering their size.

So far you have been able to complete the tasks yourself. However, in addition Wrap up Web will perform the following tasks as part of our Search Engine Optimisation service. So you understand further what this entails they are summarised below. Please note that these are server side SEO configuration tasks that can only be completed by Wrap up Web but are nevertheless just as critical in helping your website rank in the search listings.


There is a file called .htaccess in the root of your website that is critical in making sure your website displays correctly.

4.1.1Canonicalization to your preferred domain in .htaccess

Using this file we can make sure that if your preferred display domain is liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk and someone types in www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk then www.liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk redirects to liverpoolbuildingservices.co.uk.

If your page is using an image expires tag, which specifies a future expiration date for your images. Users' browsers will see this tag and cache the image in their browser until the specified date (so that it does not keep re-fetching the unchanged image from your server). This speeds up your site the next time returning visitors arrive at your site and require the same image.

4.1.3 - Block any Autobots who are ignoring the robots.txt file in .htaccess (Optional)

Autobots roam the internet looking for websites to can and read. Some are welcome like Google but other are out to take your information to use it against you or target or defraud you.

The robots.txt file discussed above is used to block these unwanted Autobots. However, sometimes the robots.txt file can be ignored by certain Autobots. An extra level of prevention can be put in place by adding a piece of code into your .htaccess file that will stop the Autobots from continuing to crawl your site.

We add this code to your .htaccess file by default so you don't have to.

4.1.4 - Enable Gzip Compression

Website gzip compression makes it possible to reduce the file size of a web file (like HTML, PHP, CSS and Javascript files) to about 30% or less of its original size before these files get sent to the browser of a user. This compressed file is then served to the browser of the user which in turn decompresses it automatically to load the full original file in the browser again. 

Enabling gzip compression is great for improving page speed because your visitors will need to download much smaller web files as the original ones when browsing your web pages , which speeds up the download process of these files. To turn it on...

Categories can have multiple levels rather like a tree structure here we will create a top level category then a subcategory under it. You do not need to create sub categories they can all be top level but if you have a lot of products it helps to categorise them in a structured order. This is sometimes called Taxonomy.

There are 3 types of Products - Childless Products, Parent Products and Child Products

Childless Products - A Product that is not a parent has no variables. For example a hand crafted card. This is a one off item with no variables such as size, colour or weight etc. Therefore this item can be set up as an individual Product with its own parameters such as a category, description, price and a stock level etc.

Parent Products - As soon as you apply a variant to your item such as size, colour or weight etc you will need to set up your item as a Parent Product. For example a Dress could come in many colours and many sizes, so in order for the ecommerce system to know what stock levels you have for each, Child Products need to be created that have those variables attached to them. Setting up a Parent Product is exactly the same as a normal product except you do not set a Stock Level you instead create Child Products. 

Child Products - Adopt all the parameters from the Parent Product then all that needs setting in the Child Product is a Stock level. A Product becomes a Parent Product only when Child Products are created within it. Once created in the Parent Product Child Products will appear in the list of Products as individual Products.

How do I know which one of the above my product is?

Add new Childless Product 

  1. From the menu click Virtuemart/Products
  2. Click New
  3. Type 'Product Name'
  4. Type 'Product SKU'
  5. Select Manufacturer(optional)
  6. Select Product Category/Categories
  7. Save
  8. Click 'Add New Price'
  9. Type in 'Cost Price'
  10. Press 'Save' button
  11. Select the 'Product Status' Tab
  12. Type the correct stock qty in the 'In Stock' box. (Must be at least 1)

The Parent Product stock level however needs to be set to 1 under the 'Product Status' Tab 'In Stock' box and the 'Availability Date' set to '-never-'(press red cross). This will prevent Parent Products from being marked as 'Out of Stock' *. Stock levels for a Parent Product will be dictated by its Child products not the parent.
  10. To add Image select 'Product Images' Tab. Press 'Choose File' button. Select image
  11. Press 'Save' button
  12. To apply a variable to the Parent Product select the 'Custom Fields' Tab
  13. From the dropdown select the variable value from the DropDown
  14. Set up as required(see custom fields above)
  15. Press 'Save' button

* If the 'Out of Stock' notice is showing in the front end for a Child Product ensure Product Status 'In Stock' is set to 1 AND 'Booked,ordered' Box is set to zero. 

Add Child Products to the Parent Product

  1. Select the 'Custom Fields' Tab
  2. From the DropDown select the Custom Field Type 'Anti-Ligature' 
  3. Change 'Product Name' to Use Custom label'
  4. In the box to the right Type the name of your variable eg 'Size'
  5. In the large box to the right of 'Size' type in your variants eg 

    Extra Large

  6. Press 'Save' button
  7. You can add a further Multi Variant eg Colour. Under the 'New Ramifications' header change 'Product Label' to Use Custom label'
  8. In the box to the right Type a name eg 'Colour' then press the Green New' button
  9. In the large box to the right of 'Size' type in your variants eg


  10. Press 'Save'
  11. Repeat above as necessary to add further Ramifications(max 5)
  12. Press 'Save'
  13. Now you are ready to add and configure your Child Products
  14. Press the 'Add a Child Product' button
  15. Now change its 'Custom Label' fields as required
  16. Type in a unique Product SKU(Product number) for your child product
  17. Type in its unique Price. (Leave blank if you want it to reflect the Parent Product price)
  18. Press the 'Save' button
  19. Add and configure more Child Products as required.

Set up Child Product Stock Levels

Child products will adopt all information from the parent Product. The only remaining task is to change the stock qty for each Child Product.

  1. From the menu click Virtuemart/Products (Note that VM will automatically sort the product list to include only child products when working in child products. To see all products click the 'Reset' button top right)
  2. Select the Child Product you wish to set a stock qty for
  3. Select the 'Product Status' Tab
  4. Type the correct stock qty in the 'In Stock' box
  5. The 'Availability Date' should be any date before today
  6. Press 'Save

To reset your Client Billing and Support Account password

1. Click the link below


2. Press the 'Forgot your password' link

3. Type in your Client Billing and Support account email address(see welcome and/or invoice email) 

4. Press the 'Submit' button. 

An email will be sent to the email address above with a link to reset your password. Upon clicking this link a further email will then be sent with your new password.
